THE USE OF VIDEO TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION AT SMA NEGERI 5 KOTA TERNATE

ABSTRACT
The objective of the research is to know the extent to which the use of video significantly improves students „pronunciation of homophone words at SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate. This research used quantitative research method by using pre-experimental design. Twenty respondents from XI IPA class of SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate were chosen by purposive samplingtechnique from the population. Before and after using video media the researcher gave the minimal pairs to the students. Then the researcher asked the students to read the underlined words of minimal pairs and the researcher recorded students‟ voice by using tape recorder. It was found that the use of video can significantly improve students‟ pronunciation. This was evident in the data analysis which shows that the t-statistical value(12.990) is higher than the t-critical value (2.539) at the significant level of 0.01. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H1) stating that the uses of video significantly improve students‟ pronunciation is accepted, and Nul Hypothesis (H0) stating that the use of video does not significantly improve students‟ pronunciation is rejected.
