STUDENTS’ WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM OF KHAIRUN UNIVERSITY

ABSTRACT
The objectives of this research is to find out the students’ in Writing descriptive text  at the sixth semester students of English Language Education Study Program of Khairun University. The researcher applied qualitative research design with descriptive method. It involved 20 respondents of sixth semester. From students writng of descriptive text.the researcher focus on fifth aspect to know the students writing descriptive text that are content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The data from 20 respondents show that 10 or 50% be able to write complete based on the topics and describe tourism spot correctly. While the other of them about 10 or 50% of the respondent has average result in writing descriptive text.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to know there is any correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability at class A 4th semester students of English Education  Study Program of Khairun University consist of 11 students. Convinient sampling is used in this research. This research used correlation design with quantitative approach. The data were collected by using two kinds, vocabulary test and documentation (final speaking score) of public speaking subject were involved. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Study) version 19 was used to analyze the data. The data analysis shows there is a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability. The rxy distribution of the coefficient correlation is 0.562. It means that the correlation was in fair level. H1 (alternative hypothesis) of this research is accepted and null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.  There was no much different between the students’ vocabulary score and student’ speaking score. In other words, it can be concluded that students who are good in vocabulary will also tend to be good in speaking.

Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan bahasa dan ragam bahasa yang memunculkan campur kode pemakaian bahasa Ternate lisan, bentuk-bentuk campur kode bahasa Indonesia lisan, macam-macam campur kode bahasa Indonesia lisan, dan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya campur kode bahasa Indonesia lisan. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan-tuturan yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa PPs UNJ asal Ternate dalam berkomunikasi. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah metode observasi dan metode interview. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya unsur bahasa lain dalam pemakaian bahasa Indonesia lisan siswa seperti bahasa Ternate dan melayu Ternate. Bentuk-bentuk campur kode yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini adalah campur kode berbentuk kata, frasa, dan Idiom. Macam-macam campur kode yakni campur kode ke dalam, campur kode ke luar, dan campur kode campuran.

Abstrak


This study aims to improve speaking skills by using Picture Stories on class II students of SD Negeri Sirongo Folaraha, North Tidore District, Tidore Islands City, North Maluku Province. The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). Based on the research conducted, in general the Picture Story can improve the ability of class II students of SD Negeri Sirongo Folaraha, Tidore Islands City, North Maluku Province to speak. Specifically the Picture Story method that is applied in the early stages and the learning process can provide the widest opportunity for students to develop their creativity in choosing and determining themes, topics, and background stories that are in accordance with their interests, knowledge and experience, and can frame story. Furthermore, at the stage when speaking or conveying the process goes well and dynamically. This can happen when students talk, making it easier for students to develop story ideas. Students successfully carry out speaking activities by paying attention to the forming elements of the story. Then increasing the ability of students to speak by using the method of pictorial stories, namely students can do can convey each story that has been compiled. Based on the results of the study talking by using Picture Stories, it is suggested to teachers who want to apply the Picture Story method to talking learning so as to provide maximum guidance and direction to students. The application of the Picture Story method does not curb the creativity of students in the work so students can develop ideas, thoughts, and ideas according to their interests, knowledge, and experience.

THE USE OF VIDEO TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION AT SMA NEGERI 5 KOTA TERNATE

ABSTRACT

The objective of the research is to know the extent to which the use of video significantly improves students „pronunciation of homophone words at SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate. This research used quantitative research method by using pre-experimental design. Twenty respondents from XI IPA class of SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate were chosen by purposive samplingtechnique from the population. Before and after using video media the researcher gave the minimal pairs to the students. Then the researcher asked the students to read the underlined words of minimal pairs and the researcher recorded students‟ voice by using tape recorder. It was found that the use of video can significantly improve students‟ pronunciation. This was evident in the data analysis which shows that the t-statistical value(12.990) is higher than the t-critical value (2.539) at the significant level of 0.01. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H1) stating that the uses of video significantly improve students‟ pronunciation is accepted, and Nul Hypothesis (H0) stating that the use of video does not significantly improve students‟ pronunciation is rejected.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas terjemahan dari bahasa Inggris ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui pengamatan dan content analysis melalui teknik catat. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penilaian kualitas terjemahan terhadap naskah Buku Teks dari bahasa sumber ke bahasa sasaran menghasilkan sebuah evaluasi karya terjemahan secara komprehensif atau holistik sehingga secara keseluruhan dapat disimpulkan bahwa kualitasnya masih dibawah standar. Artinya belum memenuhi aspek keakuratan, keberterimaan dan keterbacaan secara memadai.

ABSTRAK

This research is stilistics which is linguistics and literary studies, the characteristics and functions of language, what is meant by literary women, gender and feminism, and analysis techniques seen from the language of literary works of women, gender and feminism. The method used in this research is to analyze the technique reading and writing. Here the authors note events that occur in the work. From the analysis of the short story, it is known that the use of language in a short story using the technique of delivering a message in which the author uses the subjective "I" figure. The message clearly illustrated with depictions of female characters and the role of women are equal with their husbands, as they grow and notching rubber in their garden not only that even they also participate in the field, to which it they help their husbands to grow rice in the rice fields.

Abstrak

Kajian ini adalah kajian linguistik terapan semua datanya adalah data fenomena, yang bertujuan untuk a. Menjelaskan Jenis-jenis fonem apa saja yang dapat diproduksi oleh penutur dalam memproduksi kata-kata. b. Sebarapa jauh terapan fonem yang dialami oleh penutur dalam menuturkan kata-kata yang ditinjau secara neurolinguistik. Metode pengumpulan datanya adalah metode simak, dengan memakai teknik simak libat cakap oleh Sudaryanto. Untuk menganalisa datanya penulis menggunakan metode kontribusi dengan menggunakan teknik bagi unsur langsung yang didukung dengan teknik lesap, ganti, perluas, ekspansi, dan perluas oleh Sudaryanto. Hasil yang didapatkan adalah gangguan pelafalan fonem ini terjadi pada satu lingkungan. Kemampuan tuturan anak-anak sewaktu-waktu dapat berkembang lebih jelas dan produksi kata-kata yang dituturkannya dapat dipahami oleh lawan tuturnya dengan baik dan penuh makna.
